Local attractions in and around Mount Duneed

Mount duneed estate

Nestled between the coast and the countryside, Mount Duneed is a hidden gem of the Surf Coast region. This quaint town offers convenient access to the bustling hub of Waurn Ponds as well as a quick trip to the idyllic coastal town of Torquay. From shopping to wine tasting to relaxing by the rolling hills, Mount Duneed has much more on offer than first meets the eye.

Below are some of the great activities happening around Mount Duneed and some suggestions of things to do:

Shopping in Waurn Ponds

The shopping centre at Waurn Ponds truly has something for everyone. From great boutique clothing stores to gift shops, you can spend hours window shopping or selecting a special purchase. There are many great eateries, from cafes to restaurants. The Town & Country Pizza & Pasta restaurant is a local favourite there! I also love Readings and the cinema for seeing a movie. With ample parking available it’s always an easy trip to make.

Spa retreats

Located in Torquay, the Saltair spa and retreat centre has ‘relax’ written all over it. There are different packages to choose from to indulge in the right manner for you. It is the perfect place to spend a few hours getting some well-deserved ‘me time’ while overlooking the gorgeous coastline.

Also in Torquay is the One Spa at RACV Resort, with the lounge overlooking a stretch of ocean and an 18-hole golf course. It’s luxurious destination to indulge with a range of treatments.

Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre

Here is a great cultural and history lesson waiting for you. This centre beautifully puts together a range of interesting displays on Indigenous culture in the area. There are many interactive sections where you can really get in touch with this amazing culture. The gift shop also features some unique, locally made products to check out.

Wine tasting at Mt Duneed Estate

This winery is renowned for top quality regional wines. Each day has something different on offer, from craft beer tasting to live music and entertainment over the weekends. It is the perfect place to kick back and relax with friends while experiencing some of the region’s finest foods and wines.

A day trip to Geelong

Being part of the wider Geelong area means we're just a 15 minute drive down the highway from a great selection of activities. There are lovely scenic walks along the waterfront as well as extensive shopping strips to enjoy, in particular the always-vibrant Pakington Street. Be sure to check out the gorgeous cafe culture on the waterfront or take a stroll through the Botanic Gardens too. All year round, Geelong has something to impress any visitor.

Local markets

On Saturdays, the Farmers Market in Torquay is a bustling place to be. With fresh produce aplenty, this is a great time to mingle with other customers and see the great stock on offer. It runs every Saturday morning from 8.30am to 1.00pm in the Surf Coast Shire carpark. The Cowrie market is also a local favourite over the summer months.

Transport

The Waurn Ponds train station makes commuting so easy - especially to go to Melbourne or when there are large events in Geelong's CBD.
